Recently viewedRevlonThese days, it's easier than easy to get confused with all the beauty brands that appear at the speed of light. However, few have been in for almost a hundred years. It may be difficult to believe that such a renowned brand as Revlon isn't the modern contribution to style and fashion. Are interested to learn about how it all started?
Revlon – the history of cosmetic giant
Almost 90 years ago, on March 1, the company you know today was officially introduced to the world. Another surprising fact is that it was founded by a man, and not just any man but Charles Revson. While the company was started in America, the Revson family was a union of Lithuanian immigrant and Jew. Being raised in a simple, work-oriented family, Charles showed incredible interest in style and fashion.
While being a poor immigrant family, his parents wanted to grant their son a good education, but he chose another path. Instead of becoming a college student in Boston, Revson became a tailor. His excellent sense of style and colour combination brought him popularity. However, it wasn't enough, and the men decided to launch the company specialising in nail enamel. So, the primary products that Revlon was offering the masses were updated polishes.
The main reason why Revson's enamel gained great popularity was its lasting and vibrant formulas. It's hard to believe, but in the 30s, women were entitled to nail polishes that lasted a few hours only and came in a dull variety of shades. The bold reds have changed the industry forever.
As time passed, Revlon started to expand its 'expertise', and these days, you can find anything on the scale from foundation, lipstick and polishes to perfume. Despite the years on the market and the quality of the offered products, the brand brings cosmetics closer to the average buyer rather than making it an utterly professional-use-only type of production.
Interesting facts about Revlon
Aside from a breath-taking history and development of the company, few people know that not so many people know when it comes to the brand.
- Charles was the first man who wore a professional manicure. He couldn't bear to have his nails unattended.
- Christian Louboutin is a world-famous designer. Those red-soled shoes that ladies around the globe would die for started with Revlon. In the beginning, Louboutin pained the sole with the aforementioned polish and only later adopted and modernised the routine.
- For the longest while, women globally tried to match their nail colour with the colour of lipstick. However, it was Revson why introduced the trend. The idea came to him quite suddenly. One day, sitting and reading his paper at a local café, Charles noticed a lady wiping her lips with a napkin. There wouldn't be anything wrong with it except the nail polish, and the lipstick shade didn't match and looked ghastly together.
The history of the brand is truly as inspiring as the cosmetics on offer. Should you be the one who has never tried the mentioned production, you can always buy anything you need at makeup.uk!
