Thoroughly rinse the sponge before using it for the first time. Before each subsequent application of foundation or any creamy product, thoroughly soak the sponge under a stream of warm water. Squeeze out the excess water from the sponge and begin applying the product. For hygiene purposes, wash the sponge after each use (preferably with a bar of soap) and allow it to dry. Do not seal the damp sponge in containers, drawers, bags, etc. Ensure there is direct airflow while it dries.
