Quintu is a Quechua word meaning an offering to the gods. This ancient tradition is practiced by the Incas and their descendants in the Andes. Quintu consists of three coca leaves, a plant sacred to the Incas, arranged to form a flower. Each leaf represents a distinct realm: the realm of the gods, the realm of humans, and the realm of the dead. With the coca flower, the Incas communicate with the mountain spirits known as Apu, to thank them, honor them, and request favors.
Quintu is a gesture of respect, gratitude, and harmony with nature. Even today, many Andean people use Quintu to invoke blessings, protection, and abundance.
