The Strep Throat Test is a diagnostic tool for detecting the presence of Group A Streptococcus antigens in a throat swab sample. Results are available within 5 minutes. This test helps determine the cause of a sore throat. Is the pain due to Group A Streptococcus bacteria (also known as Streptococcus pyogenes), which requires antibiotic treatment, or is it caused by a viral infection that does not?

Streptococcal pharyngitis is a dangerous condition that can lead to numerous lifelong complications (such as glomerulonephritis and peritonsillar abscess). Timely antibiotic therapy can protect you and your child from complications and hospital stays. The test speeds up the diagnosis and treatment process for you and your child. Streptococcus, acute pharyngitis (Streptococcus pyogenes), is a pathogenic bacterium characterized by the presence of Group A antigens. It causes serious infections like severe bacterial pharyngitis, impetigo, endocarditis, meningitis, postpartum sepsis, and arthritis. Untreated infections can lead to serious complications such as rheumatism and peritonsillar abscess.

Step 1: Prepare the solution: Add 4 drops of Reagent 1 to the test tube, followed by 4 drops of Reagent 2. Gently mix the solution.
Step 2: Prepare the sample: Use the included swab to collect a sample from the throat. It is recommended to swab the rear wall of the throat, the tonsils, and other inflamed areas. Place the swab with the sample into the test tube containing the solution. Rotate the swab in the test tube, then leave it in the tube for about 1 minute to extract antigens from the swab.
Step 3: Extract the material: Gently press the tip of the swab against the wall of the test tube to squeeze out as much material as possible. Remove the swab from the test tube while squeezing it against the tube's walls.
Step 4: Prepare the test cassette: Place the pipette tip on the top of the test tube. Remove the test cassette from its pouch and place it on a flat, clean surface. Add 3 drops of the solution to the sample well (S) of the test cassette. Start the timer. Results should be read within 5 minutes.
