Retinol and squalane—these words are synonymous with youthful radiance, wrinkle-free skin, and flawless beauty in modern cosmetology. Beauty products featuring these active ingredients are immensely popular among women who strive to maintain a youthful and well-groomed appearance, regardless of age.
The Ordinary Retinol 1% in Squalane is a serum with a formula developed by Canadian beauty experts. This unique water-free solution contains 1% retinol. With regular use, the serum improves skin tone, smooths wrinkles and fine lines. It helps reduce signs of photoaging and strengthens skin structure. The serum also lightens dark spots and acne scars, normalizes metabolic processes in epidermal cells, tightens pores, and enhances skin firmness and elasticity.
-
After cleansing, massage the serum onto face and neck using a gentle upward motion. Wait until fully absorbed and follow with your favourite moisturizer. Use it in your PM routine only.
Caution: Retinoids can make the skin more sensitive to UV radiation. Sun protection is particularly important when using retinoids.
Do not use in conjunction with other retinoids, including retinol or retinoic acid. Keep in a cool and dry place.

Girls, I need help. I bought this product and used it about 3 times, and something strange and unpleasant started happening: whenever I apply it on my face, it burns. On the 4th or 5th day after using it, my skin started peeling like a lizard's. I haven't used it for about a week, but even now, whenever I apply any kind of cream, lotion, toner, or even foundation, it still burns. What should I do? Should I wait for it to go away on its own? And will it go away?
I can say this: for the first time in 20 years, I can skip wearing foundation. I am thrilled with the result. I have combination skin at 35+, and I started using it immediately with 1%. Next time, I will start with 0.5%. I use it once a week because it acts on my skin like a professional peel at a cosmetologist's office. On the 3rd or 4th day, peeling begins and there are localized redness. A nourishing cream solves the problem, and voila - on the 7th day, the skin is incredible, and with each passing week, it gets better and better! I highly recommend it! They say that proven anti-aging products are retinol and peptides for a reason.
This serum is great, I've been using it for 2 months (it says it will take effect after 2 months) and I can see noticeable results, my wrinkles are smaller (I'm 35 years old). For my oily skin, the 1% light version works well - I will try the 2% version and add peptides to the serum instead of the cream.
One day I went out in the sun with SPF 15 - my face got slightly red, so now I'm using SPF 50.
The expiration date is short, but it's understandable because air and light can get in. I store it in the box and in the refrigerator.
I think if someone doesn't like this brand, it might be due to compatibility issues with other cosmetics, and it could be individual.
The product just sits on the shelf, providing no effect other than a slight moisturizing. I don't know how it affects others, but it doesn't cause any peeling or burning sensation on my skin.
This is the only thing that helped me with breakouts. To say that I am satisfied is an understatement. But I started with 0.5% and then switched to 1%.
In the morning, it is important to thoroughly cleanse with a gentle cleanser, use a toner, and apply SPF30-50.
In the evening, I use an AHA acid (Christina) (yes, they say you can't combine them, but both the dermatologist and the cosmetologist gave me the green light).
Toner,
Retinol.
I don't cover it with anything since it is already oily.
If you are just starting to use it, here are my recommendations:
Start by applying it 2-3 times a week, then every night.
Endure the peeling (the skin gets used to it).
Be amazed by the results.
I used half of the jar and it was quite disappointing. This product turned out to be useless and ended up in the trash bin. Moreover, it even caused a rash on my combination skin. It didn't provide any protection against pigmentation despite having SPF 50. In summary, it yielded zero results and instead gave me pigmentation issues and rashes. I used it overnight.
Girls, if you have acne, this is exactly what you've been looking for.
I couldn't get rid of acne for a long time. I tried peels (cool, but then BOOM, it came back), took pills for my gut, didn't eat sweets, flour, and dairy - it helps, but NO.
Then I finally decided to try advice on acne care. Yes, it will require some spending, but it's worth it!!
Morning:
1. Regular cleansing foam
2. Niacinamide (serum)
3. SPF, both in winter and summer
Evening:
1. Foam with acids (according to skin type)
2. Retinol (at night!!!!)
3. Moisturizing cream
It's been less than a month and I already have no new breakouts. Healing the spots.
Don't reinvent the wheel when dermatologists have been studying this for years!!! Self-medication can be harmful to your health!!!
It's very good, I don't like the smell, but for the sake of the effect, you can endure it. I used it every other day, didn't expect anything, and got a wow effect.
I am thrilled with this serum. It is olive-based, and I thought it would make my skin oily, but it doesn't. I apply it at night and wake up with perfectly smooth and nourished skin. Although my skin used to have acne problems,
I have been using it for about two weeks. The initial peeling quickly disappeared with a good moisturizing cream. I did not notice any worsening of the skin (which they promise at the beginning), but I am definitely satisfied with the improvements from the first application.
For those who are thinking of trying it for the first time and are currently reading reviews: take a closer look at the brand's products with a lower retinol content and introduce it gradually! It's not critical, of course, to start with this one, but there is a chance to minimize unpleasant side effects like peeling and redness. Also, don't forget about moisturizing and SPF.
I have been using this product for about a week now, and there is quite an intense reaction in the form of skin peeling. During the first couple of days, I thought we wouldn't get along because I developed large pimples. However, after a few days, my skin cleared up and the spots from previous inflammations lightened a bit. It hasn't had any effect on my pores yet. One downside is that it leaves a strong shine on combination skin, but when applied at night, it's not a problem. The consistency is very fluid, so sometimes I have to "catch" the drops. That's why I apply it on my palm first and then spread it on my face.
The product is not bad, but it only works during cold weather. It doesn't work well with any of my creams, as it tends to roll and absorb for a very long time on the periphery of my face, even if I apply just a little bit. There are much more effective products with retinol from Medik8 or Obagi, although they are more expensive, they are much more efficient. Also, this is my second jar of this brand, and for the second time, the dispenser is broken. The bottle stops screwing properly, and it's unclear what to do next. My friend had the same issue.
I have thick skin that is accustomed to acids and retinol. Before using this serum, I used the Life Flo cream with 1% retinol, and it was more effective for me. This serum has an oily texture and does not dry out or irritate the skin at all. As for visible effects, it seems to tighten and nourish the skin. However, it does not have a noticeable effect on my uneven texture and wrinkles.
Poor absorption. If you apply cream on top, it becomes excessively greasy on the face, so you need to blot it with a tissue. I have been using it for less than a week, every day, and I haven't experienced any redness or peeling. It's surprising because there should be a reaction to retinol. This is my first time using a serum with retinol. I will wait for results after 48 days of use, as the skin renewal process for people over 30 (like me) takes that amount of time. Hence, 4 stars.
The product is good. I bought it to treat breakouts, and after the first use, the inflammation disappeared. When I purchased it, I didn't know that there was a serum with a lower percentage of retinol available. This one might even be too strong at the moment. My skin is still getting used to it.
This product is really great.
It's important to remember that if you're just starting to use retinol, your skin will definitely peel. To begin with, it's best to use it once a week at most.
My skin's adjustment period lasted gradually over several months. Now my skin doesn't peel at all after applying it, and I really like the effect.
I use it all year round, except for the three summer months.
I am adding stars to my review.
Thank you, makeup, for working so smoothly during these difficult times! The serum effectively evens out the complexion and smoothens the skin. It works so well that all my female colleagues have ordered it too. I highly recommend it!
This serum is amazing, my skin literally transformed after 3-4 uses. I am 32 years old with oily and acne-prone skin, and deep lines on my forehead. Before using this product, I had never used anything with retinol, so I started using it every other day. In the second week of use, I experienced some peeling in the most sensitive areas, but it went away within two days. Now, my skin responds well to the serum and looks noticeably fresher. Breakouts are almost non-existent, my skin is less oily, and my pores have lightened. Fine lines have smoothed out after a month of use, and the deep lines on my forehead and nasolabial folds have become less prominent. The results have definitely exceeded my expectations!
I started with 0.3 and now I'm using this one. I really like it.)). To those who are planning to get pregnant, pregnant, or breastfeeding, never use it under any circumstances!
