Beauty and youth, youth and beauty — these concepts are inseparable. In the quest for both, a woman is ready to go to great lengths. To preserve the smoothness and elasticity of the skin, and to slow down the inevitable aging processes, experts from the Canadian brand The Ordinary have developed a series of unique serums. The Retinol 0.5% in Squalane formula is recommended for smoothing wrinkles and fine lines, improving the overall tone and elasticity of the skin, eliminating signs of photoaging, as well as age-related pigmentation spots, minimizing pores, evening out skin tone, and enhancing facial complexion.
Before using the product, please pay attention to the manufacturer's warning: retinol may cause severe irritation and redness of the skin, especially around the eyes and lips. If you have never used retinol products before, it is recommended to start with a product containing a lower concentration of this ingredient, such as the Retinol 0.2% in Squalane serum. Then, you can gradually introduce stronger formulas. The result will be just as effective, and you will be able to avoid irritations and redness.

Apply a small amount to cleansed facial skin in the evening as part of your skincare routine. Do not use this product in combination with other treatments containing retinoids. Store in a cool, dry place.

The effect is not particularly strong, but the skin appears less "tired".
The best thing I have ever tried! I have combination skin and, as mentioned below, the texture of this retinol is oily, but it doesn't scare me. At the beginning of using it, I experienced breakouts that lasted for about 1-1.5 months. The effect became visible already in the second week of use - my face became smooth, firm, and the under-the-skin bumps decreased. Although there are fewer blackheads, they haven't completely disappeared (I bought salicylic acid to get rid of them). I started with a concentration of 0.2%. Then I couldn't find it anywhere and bought it from another website, only to end up with a counterfeit! So, I want to tell everyone to make sure to check websites and read reviews about the companies where you order products. Even if it is more expensive, it doesn't guarantee that it's not a counterfeit, as happened to me. Now I will only order from here. Before/after results after one month.
After using it twice in the evening, I experienced incredible breakouts on my cheeks, but my comedones on my forehead disappeared. After a month of using it more frequently, my breakouts became minimal. I have never regretted using it because this is the first time I've seen such an effect. It is also an economical product. I will soon switch to 1% retinol. Before this, I used Pixi toner and the popular Ordinary toner, but only this serum has successfully tackled my problem skin.
The serum is useless. I applied it daily, but there was no effect at all. It was greasy and didn't suit my skin at all. The expiry date was only 3 months after opening, which is very short. There is still a lot of serum left, I haven't even used half of it. Now I use it on my legs so as not to waste it.
So, this serum doesn't do anything. I'm saying this as someone who has tried every retinol I could find.
I didn't order it here, but I can say that this retinol did not work for my oily-prone skin. I used it for about 2 months following the rules for using retinoids, but I didn't see any great results. The serum has an unpleasant smell and an oily texture that hardly absorbs. However, I read that it worked well for dry skin.
I started using it every day right away (in winter). It's a useless product, no effect at all, and it started clogging my pores on my face. So, I decided to only use it on my neck, and as a result, I developed closed comedones on my neck. I gave this product to my mom (who has red hair) with thin, sensitive, dry, and pigmented skin. She doesn't use any cosmetics, only washes her face with water. But even on her, there was no effect. Meanwhile, I switched to Obagi 360 Retinol 0.5.
I have been using this serum for 2 months now. Before this, I used a cream with retinol, but I still introduced the serum gradually every other day for the first 2 weeks, then switched to daily use. There seems to be an effect, as I have problematic skin and I am treating post-acne and acne. The acne seems to have disappeared (maybe due to medication treatment), and the post-acne marks are becoming less noticeable. I will continue to use it. I apply it at night, and in the morning, my face feels very pleasant.
I gave it to my mom (50 years old), who has dry, thin, and sensitive skin. She doesn't really take care of her face, just washes it and goes. Now she applies it every evening and there is a noticeable effect. However, I don't see any effect on my skin.
The expiration date is too short for such an economical consumption. I gradually introduced retinol for a month and then used it every day for another 2 months. The consumption can be seen in the photo. Unfortunately, I will have to throw all of this away. The expiration date is indeed 3 months after opening, and exactly after 3 months, the smell of the product changed.
The expiration date is too short to evaluate the effect of retinol. Unfortunately, I will not repeat it. There is not much pleasure in paying for a product and throwing away most of it (even if it is budget-friendly). If you have someone to share it with under one roof, you can get it for two.
I liked using it. I have dry skin, so squalane did not cause any discomfort. There was peeling and redness at first, which is normal for retinol. In the morning, the skin tone is always even and bright. I didn't notice any other effects, wrinkles and slight pigmentation are still there. Well, maybe squalane alone can even out the skin tone without retinol...) So I will look for something else.
Very good product, but it should not be used frequently. I alternate it with my regular skincare routine because despite being oily, it dries out the skin when used daily. I only apply it at night and it can be sealed with any face cream. It lasts a long time, but it should not be overused.
The serum is great, and at such a good price too. It should be applied twice a week at night, no more often, to avoid drying out the skin. The consistency is like liquid oil, it might feel uncomfortable at first, but you get used to it and the results are worth it. Only 2-4 drops are needed for the face, no more, and it is quite economical. Changes will be noticeable as early as the next morning after use. It is the best product for fighting acne, of course, when used in combination with other treatment methods.
I completely agree with the previous review! I purchased this product based on a beauty blogger's recommendation and I didn't regret it. My skin truly looks noticeably better! The post-inflammatory marks heal faster, the wrinkles have slightly reduced, and the overall texture of my skin is very pleasant! I do occasionally experience breakouts, but they are mostly hormonal and I haven't had any negative reactions to this serum (no major breakouts, dryness, or anything else). I will definitely try other products from this line, as the combination should be even more amazing.
I couldn't get enough of this serum for the first 10 days. Yes, the oil is so strong that it doesn't absorb into the skin for two hours, and you will shine like a pancake. But in the morning, I woke up with the best skin of my life (after childhood, of course) - soft, tender, without peeling, like velvet.
But on the 10th day, I started breaking out. Of course, retinol can cause this, or the skin may start drying out (for example, I forgot to wash my hands and applied my retinol eye cream, and in the morning, my eye area skin was completely dried out), but I wasn't expecting it to be this severe.
After a week, it gradually subsided, acne healed, no new ones appeared, and I woke up again with skin that was soft to the touch. I suspect that this is more of an effect from squalane, a wonderful oil. Now I want to try it separately.
But the old acne pigmentation spots started fading. This was actually the reason why I bought it. Acids, arbutin, and vitamin C didn't help me, so I decided that only retinol was left, and it works. Yes, it takes time, the minimum effect appeared only after a month, but my bottle is still two-thirds full, so I have plenty of time. I hope it will help.
And yes, retinol should be used without any other active ingredients. No acids, and especially no vitamin C, you don't even need to apply a cream on top of it. Just a gentle toner after cleansing, and a few drops of retinol, that's all. This substance works on its own, others interfere with it.
